TOP5 false beliefs in corporate culture: 'History'-based hiring

BELIEF #1: A good CV is a good predictor of future success of a candidate

~a.k.a. „How to write the Perfect CV” Myth

A bloody CV is just that: a history of the person. A record of experiences, an overview of the course of an applicant’s life. At your specific company and in your specific atmosphere it is not a very good predictor of future behaviour, at all. Actually, it’s a very weak one. Skill-sets are good predictors. Personality & genuine (i.e. intrinsic) motivation are. Personal goals and beliefs of an applicant are. And most of all, the matching of the personality type & position requirements is what predicts success best. These are good predictors, not a bloody, history-based CV.

I understand that it is difficult to thoroughly assess every candidate, and a CV is just a good ‘first-step’ in that process. However, there are hundreds of thousands of people out there who’d believe that a SUPERCOOL CV will get them the job. Not to mention the many ways applicants are hiping up their CVs to look more attractive. I believe companies should do their part to dissolve this belief by emphasizing a more skill-set oriented approach.
